Rotastak hamster cages come in different colors and sizes. You can literally create a palace for your hamster through different tubing that connects one unit to another. There are some amazing Rotastak hamster cages available where you can create a cage that can run from one side of the room, up to the ceiling, and over to the other side.
Rotastak hamster cages are made from plastic and are divided into units. These cages start off with a starter unit which can be any shape, but are generally a round unit with an attic bedroom. The maxi unit doubles the floor area of a single original round unit. The single starter unit and maxi unit are generally perfect for a single hamster, gerbil, or mouse.
A pod unit is a triangular sectional cage that has two levels. It has plastic and wire bars. One of the smallest pod units is the cosmo pod. It generally includes a feeding bowl and water bottle. They will come in different colors.
Combination units already connect different units together with special sectional tubing. Therefore, instead of buying the units individually and the tubing to connect them, you can buy them already assembled. There are also themed Rotastak hamster cages, such as:

Keeping it Safe
It is important to keep your hamster safe in the hamster cage you choose. You do not want to leave any room for your hamster to escape. Rotastak units are made from sturdy plastic; however, you can take some extra precautions to ensure your hamster is snug and safe in his cage when you wake up in the morning.
- Check all joints and clips before you move the cage or put your hamster in it.
- Secure all sides and joints of the cage with masking tape or sellotape.
- Put your cage on a stable table or floor to help prevent it from tipping over.
- Install anti-gnaw rings onto the tubes so you can prevent them from chewing on and damaging the tubes.
Once you ensure the cage is safe, put your hamster in and enjoy watching him have fun with all the accessories available.
How to Clean
By far the biggest complaint about Rotastak hamster cages is the cleaning. With all the tunnels and floor space cleaning is more difficult and time consuming than a “regular” hamster cage.
It is critical that you clean the cage at least once a week. It is not necessary to scrub and disinfect every single piece of the cage every time. Changing the bedding is the most important part. Before you begin, make sure your hamster has a safe place to play while you clean. A hamster ball is always a fun place to put him in.
Fill up a bucket with hot, soapy water. Be sure to use a mild soap, such as unscented dish soap instead of harsh cleaning chemicals. Clean your cage accessories by removing the top off the cage. Remove all non-porous parts and put them in soapy water.
Use a cleaning brush to clean the parts, and be sure to clean the inside of the water bottle. Clean all urine spots out of the tubing by soaking them hot water and rinsing. Allow the parts to air dry. Dump out the old bedding. If the cage is small enough, you can immerse in hot soapy water and allow it to soak. If it is too big, scrub the walls or screens with cleaning solution and rinse well.
